Soothill Structures


Graduating as a Civil Engineer and studying Timber Structures and Technology at Imperial College at Masters level, Charles Soothill started his career at the Timber Research and Development Association. The majority of his experience however has been in general consultancy practice, designing building structures in all materials and sectors. A Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Charles has fulfilled a design leadership role for most of his career. Now a sole consultant, Charles enjoys hands-on design.  

Motivations 


Charles is motivated by providing elegant and practical engineering solutions and delights in anticipating the needs and drivers of clients and their architects. Clarity of thought in concept design, attention to detail and timing of delivery are key aims. 

Interests 


In work Charles retains an interest in design of timber structures and sustainable construction. He strives however to keep abreast of all forms and materials as they are applied to all types of building; new, existing and historic. Beyond work, Charles' interests include small yacht cruising, laid back dinghy racing, hill walking and building timber structures.
